ALLRED Mrs. Myrle Bass Allred, of 2309-C Lednum died Wednesday afternoon in Forsyth Memorial Hospital, WinstonSalem. Mrs. Allred was a native of Lincoln County. She moved to Durham in 1948 and lived here since that time.

Mrs. Allred was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she participated in the Susannah Wesley Sunday School class, and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Allred also worked as the church hostess for several years. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday morning at 11:00 in Trinity United Methodist Church.

Officiating will be the Rev. H. Gray Southern. Surviving are, her husband, H. A.

Allred, a son, Reggie Allred of Durham; a daughter, Barbara A. Grubbs of Winston-Salem; a brother, Bill Bass of Lake Junaluska; 2 sisters, Sara Tolbert of Greensboro and Mary Lou Bigler of Seattle, WA; and four grandchildren, Scott Allred, Heather Allred, Evan Hunter and Eric Hunter. 24, 1996 at the age of 62. Mickey was from Phenix City, AL and Columbus, GA. He spent the last of his years in Durham, NC. Mickey was the son of the late Douglas I. Bagley and the late Sadee Stewart Bagley Fannin, and the stepson of the late Dewey M.

BROWN BROWN Juliette Bowers Brown of Durham, North Carolina, died December 25th after a long illness. Mrs. Brown, 52, was born in Hampton, Virginia, the daughter of Wilton A.

(Dudie) Bowers, Jr. and Marion Long Bowers, of "Long East Hampton. Mr. and Mrs. Bowers have both preceded her in death.

Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Hampton High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation, she attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va. Prior to her marriage in April 1970, to Matthew Alan Brown of New Bedford, Massachusetts, as she was known to her friends, was employed by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock of Newport News, and later for The Department of the Army at Fort Monroe, Va. The Browns have two ters, Amy Tilghman Brown ding of Charlotte, NC and Judith Shrier Brown, a junior at Wake Forest University.

Surviving with her husband and two daughters, is her sister, Ann-Tilghman B. Rodgers of Winchester, her Aunt, Mrs. Catherine Greer of Hampton and two nephews, W. Allan Rodgers, Jr. of Leesburg, Va.

A native of Durham County, she was employed for many years with Liggett Myers Tobacco Company, retiring in 1977. Miss King was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church and the Fidelis Bible Class.

Miss King is survived by one niece; four nephews and one sister-in-law. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11. AM in Ephesus Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Woody Massey.

He was 69 years old. Born in Syracuse, New York, in 1927, Mr. Roman served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War IL. After leaving the service, he was recruited by the Chicago Cubs baseball organization to play second base and outfield positions for minor league teams in Florida from 1949-51.

later, Mr. Roman became an actor and singer. His professional career spanned nearly two decades with roles in soap operas, commercials, and many original Broadway theater productions, including "Bells are Ringing," "Most Happy Fella," and "Compony. Mr. Roman and his family moved to Durham in 1979, where he worked as a manager and salesman for several local automobile dealerships.

The Roman family will receive visitors at the Howerton- Bryan Funeral Home at 1005 W. Main Street in Durham from 2-4 PM on Saturday, December 28. He is survived by his wife Mona; daughter Melinda; son Mark; brother Edward; aunt Harriet; grandson Alexander; and daughte Linda. WHITTINGTON Mr. Tolbert M. Whittington, 76, a resident of 2402 Wrightwood Ave. died Thursday morning at Duke University Hospital. Mr.

Whittington was a native of N. Wilksboro, NC. He was retired from the VA Medical Center. Mr. Whittington served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII.

He was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Air Force Association, the VFW and Disabled American Veterans. I I I He was also a member of the Americon Legion, the Durham Masonic Lodge 352, the Masonic Luncheon Club, the Southgate Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and NARFE. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Yates Baptist Church.

A native of Orange County, Mr. Harris was a graduate of Walter Williams High School in Burlington and a graduate of Elon College. He was an Assistant Vice President at Nations Bank in Chapel Hill where he worked for 32 years, a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he was an ordained Deacon and Sunday School teacher, a member of the American Legion, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former member of the Sertoma, Civitan and Lions Clubs.

Carmel Baptist Church for future paving of the parking area. WELLS CHAPEL HILL Gudrun Karbelius Wells, 71, of Chapel Hill, died Wednesday after a long illness. Mrs. Wells was born in Ostersund, Sweden to Maya. Lorson and Robert Karbelius.

She was predeceased by a son, Charles Dodohue. She moved to Stockholm, Sweden and was educated as an Interior Designer. Mrs. Wells owned and operated Gudrun Interiors of Reston, VA. and worked as an Interior Designer in the Washington, DC area and in Chicago, IL.

She also owned and operated Gudrun Wells Designs, hand knit sweaters, for 15 years in Pougkeepsie, NY. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 Friday in the Walker's Funeral Home Chapel in Chapel Hill. Survivors include her husband, Paul Wells; a daughter, Christine Snow and husband, Lynn, of McLean, VA; grandsons, Kennith Il and Matthew Snow of McLean, VA; a sister, Ingrid Strandburg of Gothenburg, Sweden. Mrs. Burress was born in Caldwell the daughter of Julia Ella Ford Lonnie Curtis Harrison. She was the owner of Design Galleries and was an Interior Artist.

She was a graduate of Happy Valley High School in Patterson, NC; a 1967 graduate of Appolochian State University with a BA degree; an allied member of ASID; a 1996 recipient of an emerging artist grant from the Catawba County Council for the Arts. Her graduating class of 1967 was one of the first to graduate from the Appalachian Art Department. Mrs. Cummings was born in Charlotte, the daughter of the late Ralph and Thelma Phifer Booth. She graduated from Central High School in Springfield, MA and retired in 1982 as a purchasing agent for Central Carolina Bank in Durham, NC. She was a member of Saint Michael's the Archangel Anglican Church in Charlotte. Survivors include her husband, Chester B.

Cummings; son, Chester B. Cummings, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; three daughters, Joyce Allen and her husband Robert of Charlotte, Janice Swedenburg and her husband Clyde of Mooresville, NC, and Cathie Goetz and her husband Eric of Durham, NC; seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Ernest Leland Greene, 86, of 990 Longreen died Wednesday, Dec. 25, at Bradford Village West. He was born in Wake a son of Herman Percival and Roxanna Yates Green. Mr. Greene was a former member of Homestead Heights Baptist Church in Durham and a retiree of Production Credit Association in Raleigh.

Surviving are is wife, Sally Brooks Greene of the home; a son, Ernest Leland Greene, Jr. of Kernersville; a brother, Robert Green of Gainesville, Florida; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be conducted 6:00 PM Saturday at Main Street Baptist Church in Kernersville by the Rev. Wilson Harmon and Rev. Randy Bishop.

J. Harmon, of Raleigh, died Christmas Day at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was born in Ahoskie, NC and was the son of the late Arthur Riddick and Clara Willoughby Harmon. Mr. Harmon served in the Armed Services in Fort Monroe, VA and later was Chief Aircraft Inspector at the Norfolk Naval Air Station.

After the war, he began his automotive career at Perry Buick in Norfolk, VA. In 1946, he was awarded the Lincoln, Mercury Franchise in Raleigh, NC. His extensive financial career spanned more than fifty years and included fourteen different automobile franchises, real estate and finance companies.
