Last week our Associate Director of Education, Amanda Friedeman, joined Holocaust Museum Houston for the final day of their Max M. Kaplan Summer Institute for Educators. During her first session, she discussed the Holocaust in Denmark and approaches to teaching using our graphic novel, “Hour of Need.” In the second session, the focus was on creating graphic novels in the classroom and the pedagogical benefits of teaching with graphic novels. Thank you, Holocaust Museum Houston, for inviting Amanda to join you.

We are disturbed by the recent defacement of the Anne Frank statue in Amsterdam and strongly condemn this crime. https://buff.ly/3LgSLRc We invite everyone to visit the Museum and explore our online resources to learn how you can speak out against the dangers of silence and unchecked hatred. Learn why this is an act of antisemitism and take a stand by educating others. https://buff.ly/4cVjDSF As Anne Frank reminded us, “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”

As the Museum has said before, supporting Palestinian rights is not antisemitic; however targeting a private home of a Jewish member of Congress to protest the Israeli-Gaza war is antisemitic. Demonstrating by targeting Jewish institutions, events, neighborhoods, Jewish students, or the Jewish people in any capacity because they are Jewish, is antisemitism. Blaming Jewish people for actions taken by the Israeli government, or demanding a Jewish person have a position on the current conflict, is antisemitism.
